The Tragic Danger of Toads

We lost Billy on Boxing Day. That's why we started Toad Busters.

It was Boxing Day. Billy, our cheeky Cavalier King Charles, was sitting on the patio, waiting patiently for scraps of leftover Christmas meat. It was his favourite spot during the holidays.

We knew how dangerous cane toads were. We’d put measures in place to stop Billy from wandering into the yard. What we didn’t expect was a fat, horrible toad hiding under the outdoor table.

Billy spotted it before we did. He bit it. Within minutes, he was frothing at the mouth and started convulsing.

We rushed him to the emergency vet, but it was already too late. Billy was gone.

He wasn’t just a dog. He was part of our family. And even though we knew the risks and thought we’d taken the right precautions, we still couldn’t save him. That’s what devastated us the most.

So we started Toad Busters to help other families avoid the heartbreak we went through.

We're a Queensland-based service helping pet owners stay one step ahead of cane toads.

We offer:

  • Property inspections to detect toad activity

  • Wildlife-proof fencing to keep them out

  • Emergency kits in case your pet comes into contact with a toad

Cane toads aren’t just gross. They’re deadly. One bite or one lick is all it takes.

If you’ve got pets, don’t take the risk.
